Marriott International has unveiled Ummrao Saaj, its first modern Indian restaurant in South Asia, at the Courtyard by Marriott Mumbai International Airport in Andheri East, Mumbai. The new dining destination celebrates the rich heritage of Awadhi cuisine by merging traditional recipes with contemporary culinary techniques, offering guests a refined and sensory dining experience that honours India’s royal past while embracing modern creativity.
The restaurant’s ethos — described as “Modern Plates, Rooted Stories” — emphasises elevated interpretations of classic Awadhi flavours, with signature dishes such as silken galawat kebabs, slow-braised meats, aromatic rice preparations and nuanced vegetarian offerings that showcase spice balance, technique and presentation.
Ummrao Saaj goes beyond food with a multi-sensory ambience that blends soundscapes and subtle aroma elements, complemented by a curated bar programme inspired by Indian classical music. The cocktail experience is built around Raag-inspired drinks crafted with Indian spirits and native botanicals, while storytelling by the service team adds cultural depth to every dish.
According to Abhishek Sachdev, General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Mumbai International Airport, Ummrao Saaj reflects Marriott’s commitment to world-class, culturally rooted hospitality that resonates with both travellers and local diners. Designed to be both immersive and welcoming, the restaurant offers a unique blend of heritage and innovation in one of India’s most dynamic culinary cities.
