In a trend that blurs the lines between human dining experiences and pet nutrition, a new pet-focused culinary concept has debuted in Chennai, aiming to transform how urban pet owners think about feeding their dogs. The venture, Wagg n Dine, opened its pet-centric cloud kitchen operations at Taj Connemara this week, offering freshly prepared meals made from human-grade ingredients.
Unlike conventional processed kibble and packaged pet foods, the meals at Wagg n Dine are cooked daily using fresh chicken, vegetables, and high-quality components in a kitchen designed to meet human-food standards before being delivered straight to customers’ homes. The concept taps into a growing desire among pet owners for cleaner nutrition and personalised diets for their pets, aligning with broader trends in the Indian pet care market where premiumisation and humanisation are gaining traction.
Founder Manivannan spoke about the shift in mindset among urban pet parents: rather than viewing feeding as a routine obligation, many now treat their dogs as cherished family members whose dietary needs deserve equal care. To cater to this demand, Wagg n Dine emphasises convenience and quality, providing ready-to-serve meals that aim to offer balanced nutrition without artificial preservatives.
Adding culinary credibility to the launch, Padma Shri recipient Chef Damu highlighted how pet food has historically been overlooked by many in terms of quality — even as people pay significant attention to their own diets. His involvement underscores a growing respect for pet culinary care, where ingredients and preparation methods matter as much as they do in human kitchens.
Before going public, Wagg n Dine conducted trials with a circle of pet owners to fine-tune its menu offerings and ensure that the meals were well accepted by both pets and humans alike. The positive response helped shape the final launch, and the brand now plans to tap into the increasing demand for customised, wholesome pet nutrition in Chennai and potentially other urban markets.
